OUR HISTORY

Founded in 1989 as a spin-off from Brookhaven National Laboratory, Sion Power began as a research-driven initiative focused on unlocking the potential of advanced battery chemistries. What started as Moltech has grown into a privately held company with a deep bench of scientists, engineers, and global partners committed to redefining energy storage.
Today, Sion Power operates from a 115,000-square-foot R&D and production facility in Tucson, Arizona.
Our team of 90+ employees—including dozens of Ph.D. scientists—has secured more than 430 international patents and applications.
Inside our campus, you’ll find a dry room for cell manufacturing, a 5,300-square-foot safety and abuse testing lab with over 2,000 test channels, and state-of-the-art laboratories for analytical, materials, and electronics research.

After decades of development, our breakthrough Licerion® technology is ready to reshape the lithium battery landscape—delivering unmatched energy density and specific energy in a safer, dramatically lighter cell.
